And despite rebels’ rejection of the peace proposals it sponsored, the African Union is still seeking a way to establish a ceasefire in the war-torn country. And, as the political head of Libya’s rebel movement told euronews, that is simply not acceptable. “The initiative does not include the fundamental demand of the Libyan people which is the departure of Gaddafi and his sons,” said Mustafa Abdul-Jalil of the Interim Transitional National Council. “So, there is no reason to discuss this initiative which is out of date.” Despite enthusiasm in Benghazi and NATO airstrikes, the revolution seems to have run out of steam.
