Mass fish deaths were reported after large number of birds fell from the sky in two U.S. states. Authorities have performed tests on the dead birds and ruled out disease and poisoning as possible cause of death. Birds, fish die en masse in U.S., Sweden It is assumed that the birds died from cold weather or other natural causes and experts say that this is not a rare phenomenon. Scientists blamed New Year’s Eve fireworks for the deaths of thousands of blackbirds in Arkansas. However, another 450 birds died this week in Louisiana and they are believed to have crashed into power lines. An unexplainable mass death of fish was reported on Tuesday evening in Maryland – as many as two million of fish died. Similar reports came this week from Brazil, where 100 tons of small fish were found dead, and New Zealand where several hundreds of larger fish species died. Between 50 and 100 dead jackdaws were found in Sweden on Wednesday. The cause of death is still unknown. Scientists explain that cold weather is responsible for the birds and fish deaths and majority of reports point out that such incidents happened before. The fish deaths in Brazil have not been explained either, and experts say that possible reasons are “environmental imbalance”, chemical pollution or accidental falling of fishermen’s catch into the water. Experts from New Zealand blamed the weather, pointing out that the fish had starved to death due to climate disruption. There is also no explanation for the mass deaths of about 100,000 of fish that were found in Arkansas ahead of the New Year’s Eve.
