Cuba has condemned the release of a new video game in which U.S. special forces try to kill young Fidel Castro. State-run media said the game, Call of Duty: Black Ops, attempted to legitimize murder and assassination in the name of entertainment. Cuba up in arms against video game Released earlier this week, Call of Duty: Black Ops takes players on secret missions abroad during the height of the Cold War. It lets players shoot their way through the streets of Havana, in a bid to assassinate the then young revolutionary leader. Its predecessor, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, generated more than USD 1bn in sales. Call of Duty: Black Ops is the seventh game in the series and the third to be developed by U.S.-based developer Treyarch. Controversial stuff: A boy in Sacramento, Calif., studies his copy of the game (Beta/AP) “Awesome fun” James Binns, a video game expert and publisher of Edge Magazine, had an opportunity to play the game. “There are a lot of weapons there and a lot of enemies. At the same time it’s a very exciting social game because players can unite. The scenario is very dynamic, it takes you to various conflicts worldwide. Indeed, an excellent game, much better than I expected,” he was quoted. The game’s iconography and choice of music are associated with Hollywood movies "Apocalypse Now" and "The Deer Hunter" and reviewers say this confirms the mutual influence – action movies are taking over video games’ aesthetic, while video games increasingly resemble Hollywood blockbusters.
