UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has been criticized for poor leadership and allowing the world body to “fall apart” by a departing senior member of his team. The damming remarks have been made by the former head of the organizations internal oversight office, Inga -Britt Ahlenius of Sweden who resigned last week. Phrases such as “no transparency”, “a lack of accountability” and “causing the secretariat to drift into irrelevance”, ring out from the page. The criticism represents an unusually vociferous attack on the UN chief who has been criticized before for his unfulfilled pledge to restore the UN’s reputation, tarnished by corruption.
