Former U.S. vice president Al Gore "did not deserve the Nobel peace prize he received on Friday," an expert says. Gore was one of the key participants in the bombing of Serbia without the UN Security Council mandate in 1999, Jan Oberg, a leading international expert on peace studies, explained. "Gore does not deserve Nobel prize" In a statement, a copy of which was received by Tanjug, Oberg said that Gore's Nobel prize would additionally undermine the good reputation of this prize. Gore, who was the U.S. vice president under Bill Clinton between 1993 and 2001, "has never been a man of peace, nor has he ever been perceived in this way," Oberg said, and added that Clinton and Gore had actually worked on creating U.S. military allies everywhere around Russia, thus missing the greatest chance in history of establishing a new world order. "They bombed Serbia in violation of international law and without UN Security Council mandate, on the basis of their weak knowledge of Yugoslavia and propaganda of genocide, which created the terrible situation in which Kosovo is today," said Oberg, who is the director of the Transnational Foundation for Peace and Future Research (TFF), based in the Swedish town of Lund.
