In nine days, 30.000 newly infected

Experts assume that omicron, a strain that originated in South Africa and was found to be many times more contagious than the previous delta strain, which created chaos in our country, is actually "guilty" of an enormous increase in the number of newly infected.

The situation is almost identical in many European countries, where the number of newly infected is in the hundreds of thousands.

There is also fear of merging the flu and COVID-19 viruses.

Commander of the Karaburma Military Hospital, Colonel Doc. Dr Ivo Udovicic said that only mass vaccination of the population and COVID passes that would be valid for 24 hours could suppress and mitigate the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic. Udovicic told the Beta agency that there is currently a slight increase in hospitalized patients, although 30.000 new infections were recorded in the first nine days of this year. He said that 62 infected people are being treated at the hospital in Karaburma.

"We expect more hospital admissions this week. We hope that number will not be too high, because then we would be in big trouble, considering that we currently have 12 technicians and two doctors on sick leave among the medical staff", Udovicic stated.
