Let us remind you that this strain is present in our immediate environment, but it is not officially isolated in our country. The Minister of Health of Serbia made a similar statement last night.

"There is very contradictory information about whether it is really milder, as it is often said, but even if it is milder, what is completely certain is that it is much more portable. The fact that it is so transmittable for such a short period of time is frightening," Pavlovic told Serbian Radio and Television.

As she stated, "this means that the health care system will inevitably be overloaded, because if a large number of people become ill at the same time, it will fill hospitals that are not now in COVID system, which we are very afraid of".

She said that no one is completely protected from this strain, because omicron has the ability to avoid our immune response, regardless of whether it was acquired through natural immunity, i.e. infection, or a vaccine. As she mentioned, vaccination helps as well as adherence to measures against coronavirus, calling for them to be implemented more strictly and with penalty policy.

When asked about mass gatherings, she said that the consequences of such behavior could be seen immediately. "After seven to 15 days, we see those consequences in our hospitals," Pavlović told RTS.
