Serbia to give EUR 50k to each athlete winning gold in Rio
Vucic and Udovicic told them the rewards for the medals would be paid out immediately and that they would be provided with everything they needed for successful campaigns at the Rio Olympics."We expect good results in Rio, the best in the history of Serbia. We are to hold talks with the Athletics Federation of Serbia on hosting the European Athletics Indoor Championships and a potential bid to host the World Indoor Championships or the European Outdoor Championships," Vucic said.
Developing the sports infrastructure is significant because it enables children to train and take part in sports activities, Vucic said.
Vucic said he was proud the rewards offered by Serbia for medals in the upcoming Rio Olympics were among the world's five highest (e.g. 50,000 euros for a gold medal) and "five times higher than the amount offered by Croatia."
"That way, we want to motivate athletes, but we know they are not fighting for money, but for the coat-of-arms, the flag, the national anthem, the country," Vucic said.
Long jumper Ivana Spanovic won the gold in Amsterdam, while decathlete Mihail Dudas claimed the bronze.
