A private house was struck by a lightning at 12:30 CET on Thursday in Belgrade's Kaludjerica neighborhood, the daily Blic is reporting.

Belgrade house damaged by flames after lightning strike

Two fire trucks and eight firefighters responded and contained the fire, the report said.

The owner of the house, Aleksandar Rakic, said he was taking his child to see a doctor when he heard "a blast" in the distance - unaware that it was the sound of his home being struck by a lightning.

Rakic added that his neighbors phoned him with the news, and also helped save what furniture they could from the house, that had a lightning rod installed.
