Although more freezing rain has been forecast for this evening, the mayor expects that the scattering of "calcium and sodium chloride" onto the roads' surface will prevent future problems.

Mali also revealed that 2,487 workers are currently tasked with maintenance of the city's streets, and that the entire utilities system has been working "around the clock for three days" because of the snowfall.

The mayor called on citizens to be "more careful" and reminded them it was their, and the obligation of all companies and institutions in Belgrade, to clear snow from in front of their property.

Mali also today joined Aleksandar Vulin, workers of public utilities companies, and users of social benefits in clearing snow from around the Vukov Spomenik area of the city.

Vulin noted there were more than 123,000 persons capable of work who received social benefits in 2015, and that taking part in snow removal was "a way for these people to show that receiving social aid is not an occupation, but an unfortunate condition that should and must change, above all through work."

"These people today took on the obligation to show, through their work engagement, how much they care about working and about the community. They are most needed now and it's important for us to know we can count on them, and that they know work can solve their problems," the minister said, adding that those who take part in this kind of activity will be given preference when applying for jobs with public utilities companies.
