Guca Trumpet Festival winner announced
Veljko Ostojic, the jury's president and the 2004 Master of Trumpet, voiced regret over this year's poor ranking of orchestras from western Serbia."Unfortunately, orchestras from the western part of our country are three steps below the (brass) bands from southern Serbia," he added.
The festival, which kicked off on August 3, closes on Sunday evening, with a concert by the winning orchestras, master of trumpet Elvis Ajdanovic and Balkanika orchestra.
This year, the event brought together around 550 trumpet players. On Saturday, when the winners were announced, tens of thousands of visitors from Serbia, the region and other parts of Europe were present.
Guca, a town in western Serbia, has been the capital of trumpet since 1961, when the festival was first held.
It is one of the most popular music festivals in Europe and it features Serbia's authentic folk culture and art, by presenting the unique music of Serbian and Balkan brass bands. The National Geographic website has listed the trumpet festival in Guca as one of the ten most important cultural events in the world.
