Serbia can count on the United States as its partner and friend, Ambassador Michael Kirby has said at a reception hosted to mark his country's Independence Day.

We celebrate their achievements in science, arts, politics, sports and the military, the US ambassador said.

He noted that he is thankful for everything he has achieved in Serbia to his numerous friends and colleagues who are truly committed to Serbia's democratic and European future.

Of course, there is still work to be done, but Serbia can count on the US as its partner and friend, he said.

The reception, held at the ambassador's residence, was attended by Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic, Parliament Speaker Maja Gojkovic, Patriarch Irinej of the Serbian Orthodox Church, Serbian Armed Forces Chief of Staff General Ljubisa Dikovic, government ministers, Belgrade Mayor Sinisa Mali, foreign diplomats, businesspeople, artists and culture professionals.
