Belgrade to unveil monument to Gavrilo Princip on June 28

A monument to Gavrilo Princip will be placed by June 28 in Financial Park in Belgrade, City Manager Goran Vesic has announced.

Belgrade to unveil monument to Gavrilo Princip on June 28

A committee set up to organize this, chaired by Labor Minister Aleksandar Vulin, has held a meeting and decided on the location, Vesic added.

The 2-meter tall monument will be transported to Belgrade from the Serb Republic (RS) in Bosnia-Herzegovina "after June 20."

Vesic said that the unveiling will take place on June 28 - Vidovdan (St. Vitus Day) - and added that the committee is yet to decide on the inscription and other necessary matters.

On June 28, 1914, Gavrilo Princip shot and killed Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand - a historical event known as the Sarajevo assassination.
