Over 3,000 children requested asylum in Serbia since the beginning of the year, over 1,300 of them children without parental escort.

Djurovic "noted that most of the children do not reach asylum centers and are simply missing from the statistics, which constitutes reason for serious concern."

The Asylum Protection Center is trying to strengthen the children's mental and physical state, and we have creative and linguistic workshops, he said and added that the Center is doing everything it can within its powers to help them.

From September 2014 to May 2015, the Center managed to integrate 30 children in the formal educational system, which is a major success, he noted.

Psychologist Jana Stojanovic of the Asylum Protection Center said that children seeking asylum without parental escort age between 7 and 18 and come from Syria, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Senegal, Ivory Coast and Somalia.

An alarming piece of data shows that almost every child has experienced a kind of trauma or violent treatment either in their country of origin or on the way to Serbia, she said.
