"The area outside of Palata Srbija is being scouted, because we want to enable the people of Belgrade to continue with their eveyday life while allowing citizens from all over Serbia to come and see the parade," he told Radio and Television of Serbia.

’’The last big military parade in Belgrade was held in May 1985’’, he stated, adding that the Armed Forces had begun preparing for the October event as part of the 70th anniversary of Belgrade's liberation and 100th anniversary of the start of World War One.

According to Gasic, the goal is to use the event to present everything the military has done in the past two and a half years in terms of modernisation and training, adding that the defence industry would also be presented.

All the allies of the Serbian and Yugoslav armies from the two world wars would be invited to the parade, and the flags of all those countries the forces of which helped free Belgrade would be raised, he stressed.

"This way we wish to honour all those who helped liberate Belgrade," he pointed out.

When asked if Brussels would criticise Serbia for moving closer to Russia, he responded that Serbian Parliament had decided in favour of military neutrality.

"Serbia has proved itself as a reliable and predictable partner in the joint exercises with NATO. That does not mean Serbia is moving towards NATO. Serbia participates in joint exercises with other countries as well, like Hungary, Romania, Russia and all those it has military treaties with," he remarked.

Commenting on the Armed Forces' help to the people in areas of the country that have been hit by the floods, he said he expected those efforts to by completed in about 10 days.

"Physical assistance from the Serbian Armed Forces was not late even by a moment. Infantry and engineering units have been on the ground for 24 hours," Gasic pointed out.

The military is also investigating the incident in which the Prime Minister's brother was beaten, but will not give any statements until the investigation is over, he said.
