Aid to flood-affected citizens in eastern Serbia

Director of the Office for Reconstruction and Flood Relief, said that there is enough money to help the population affected by flash floods in eastern Serbia.

Aid to flood-affected citizens in eastern Serbia

Blagojevic told reporters in the Serbian government that it is good that the reconstruction will start in this part of the country much faster than it was the case after the major floods in western and central Serbia in May.

"Now we have the law, we have all the regulations because the system has already been set up and it is functioning well," said Blagojevic.

He added that the municipalities in the East can already start categorizing the damage.

The process can start immediately, he said.

’’The aid will be offered much faster, and the scope of damage and the number of affected households in eastern Serbia are smaller than those in May’’, he said.

"I believe that within a month the citizens whose houses were damaged could begin receiving aid and the process may be completed in a short while," Blagojevic said.

The Office for Reconstruction and Flood Relief will work on providing aid in cooperation with municipalities in the east of the country - Majdanpek, Kladovo and Negotin.

"There are sufficient funds on the government's flood relief account so that we could meet the needs of flood-affected citizens," said Blagojevic.
