Exhibition "Jews of Serbia in WWI" opens in Belgrade

“We organized lectures, which were well-attended, and we reprinted a commemorative book that could not be found anywhere anymore, this being the commemorative book honoring the Jews who were killed or died in the Balkan war and WWI from 1912 to 1918, which was published in Belgrade in 1927,” Radovanović said.

“With this exhibition, the museum cherishing the history and culture of a small Jewish community would like to join other museums, not only in Serbia, but across the world, in marking 100 years since the beginning of the Great War,” said Advisor at the Jewish Historical Museum Radmila Petrović.

The exhibition is dedicated to all Jewish citizens of Serbia, men and women who as soldiers or medical staff engaged in all wars for Serbia's freedom from 1912 to 1918, she said.

The Belgrade-based Jewish Historical Museum is the only museum of this kind in the country that keeps the archive and photo documentation, ritual objects, religious books, and materials on the Jewish history and culture, including 35 photographs from the Great War, originals and copies.
