Belgrade's Nikola Tesla Airport boosted border sanitary inspection over the weekend as the world is seeing the biggest Ebola virus outbreak in 40 years.

Serbia boosts inspection due to Ebola epidemic

The Belgrade airport "is the most endangered area due to transit from regions hit by the epidemic," Lončar told reporters after a visit to the border sanitary inspection staff.

Their shifts will be doubled, he announced, adding that inspection will also be stepped up at the Niš airport, which operates charter flights.

"We will also not be lax in road transport or any other type of transport," he said, adding that the authorities will succeed in doing all that is required to prevent Ebola from spreading into the country.

The World Health Organization (WHO) is sending us detailed instructions and recommendations depending on the situation, the minister said, noting that more than 730 Ebola-related deaths and a total of 1,323 cases of the disease have been registered globally since January.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) said this week that the WHO has advised no travel restrictions or closure of borders in the wake of the spread of the Ebola epidemic.
