Former head of Tadić's cabinet passes away

Rakić graduated from the Faculty of Law of Belgrade University and joined the DS in the mid-1990s. He held several positions within the party and became a member of its executive and main boards.

In 2012, he was made one of the party's vice presidents.

From 2003 until 2004 he served as an adviser to Tadić, who was at the time defense minister of Serbia and Montenegro. From 2004 until 2013, Rakić was chief of Tadić's cabinet.

He came to the attention of the wider public in 2010 when he was appointed secretary of the Council for National Security and president of the state Bureau for Coordination of Secret Services.

Rakić headed the election list of the New Democratic Party (NDS), which Tadić formed as he left the DS shortly before the March elections.

He was considered as a man with excellent connections both in the government and in the opposition, and was a friend to Ivica Dačić and Aleksandar Vučić.

Rakić was described as having had important roles in the reconciliation of the DS and the SPS, the formation of the SNS, and the arrest of Ratko Mladić.
