Belgrade interim city council chairman Siniša Mali on Wednesday took part in Days of Belgrade celebrations by placing a wreath at a monument in Kalemegdan Park.

Belgrade Days begin with wreath-laying ceremony

Before this, a procession went through downtown Belgrade, accompanied by the orchestra of the Interior Ministry.

Mali wished "happy Days of Belgrade to all citizens," calling on them to take part in various events that the city will stage in the next three days.

"Belgrade will organize a large number of cultural, sporting, and educational events, and we will also open the doors of the Old Palace," Mali said.

The Days of Belgrade, held from April 16-19, mark significant dates in the Serbian capital's history.

The first such date is April 16. It marks the day when in the year 878 when the Slavic name for Belgrade was mentioned for the first time in a written document - a letter Pope John VIII addressed to Bulgarian Prince Boris.
