BELGRADE An exhibition of archive materials entitled “Belgrade-Jakarta Since Establishment of Diplomatic Relations Until Today” opened at the Archives of Yugoslavia. The exhibition illustrates 59 years of diplomatic relations between Serbia and Indonesia. Exhibition on Serbia-Indonesia diplomatic relations The opening was also an opportunity to discuss future cooperation between the Archives of Yugoslavia and the National Archives of Indonesia, which signed a memorandum of understanding in March this year, Indonesian Ambassador in Belgrade Samuel Samson told reporters. Samson said that the authorities in Jakarta would like to realize a series of programs in Serbia, a promotion of the Non-Aligned Movement, among others, thus remembering the first conference of that movement that was held in Belgrade in September 1961, The ambassador said that Serbia, in the era of Yugoslavia, gave a great contribution to peace and prosperity of people throughout the world. He announced that Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic should visit Jakarta at the end of 2013 or at the beginning of 2014. The visit would be aimed at improving economic relations, Samson said, adding that would further advance very friendly and good relations between the two countries. He said that the two countries are trying to develop cooperation between sport associations, noting that a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Sports Association of Serbia and the Indonesian National Sports Committee which Tanjug said in its report envisages "exchange of athletes and coaches." Yugoslavia was among the first states that recognized the independence of Indonesia, and the agreement of the two governments to establish diplomatic relations was published on November 4, 1954, in Belgrade and Jakarta at the same time.
