BELGRADE "French Week" - promoting French expertise and products, "and economic, historical and cultural ties between France and Serbia" - is taking place in Belgrade. The event will last through November 18-22. "French Week" begins in Belgrade The organizer is the French-Serbian Chamber of Commerce, and the first in a series of events is be a French-Serbian trade show that will provide the Serbian public with an opportunity to learn more about French companies operating in the Serbian market. The trade show was opened in the presence of the President of the French-Serbian Chamber of Commerce Patrick Collin and French Ambassador to Serbia Francois-Xavier Deniau. Collin said that Serbia already has nearly 100 French operations, employing about 10,000 workers, and the aim of the event's organizers is to send a message to other French firms that Serbia is a country that should be invested in and cooperated with. The French-Serbian Chamber of Commerce is a young institution, only four years old and comprising 130 members, and the ‘French Week’ is the first big event it has organized in Serbia, said Collin. Ambassador Deniau said that relations between Serbia and France are based on agreements that are part of the European integration framework, and expressed hope that Serbia will start its EU accession talks soon. Sanja Ivanic, director of the French-Serbian Chamber of Commerce, told Tanjug that France is Serbia’s 10th most important investment partner, with French investment in Serbia amounting to EUR 800 million, which makes up 50 percent of total French investment in the Balkan region. The trade show was opened in the presence of the President of the French-Serbian Chamber of Commerce Patrick Collin and French Ambassador to Serbia Francois-Xavier Deniau.
