BELGRADE - Outgoing Transport Minister Milutin Mrkonjic said Wednesday that he would propose that Serbian companies continue Alpine's projects in the country. Mrkojnic: Serbian companies to take over for Alpine He said this could be done through a special law, a government decision or an internal tender, "so we will not waste the entire construction season." According to Mrkonjic, a lot of time was lost this season in talks with the bankrupt Alpine. On Tuesday the company Koridori Srbije informed Alpine Bau Gmbh about the termination of all four contracts for the Pirot Istok-Dimitrovgrad sections and the Dimitrovgrad bypass. Koridori Srbije has started the procedure of collecting payment of performance bank guarantees worth EUR 5.14 million and advance bank guarantees in the amount of EUR 2.73 million. Alpine's debt to Serbian companies totals RSD 420 million. Within the next 45 days, the company will publish a tender for the completion of the sections and this process will take between six and nine months, so works can be expected to start early in the next construction season and the sections should be completed by mid-2016.
