BELGRADE The eviction of Roma from a shanty town near the Belville apartment complex in New Belgrade was voluntary, reads ombudsman’s report. The report states that the Roma’s dignity and human rights were respected during the eviction process. Roma left shanty town voluntarily, report finds “Their relocation to newly formed neighborhoods in Belgrade and another nine towns and municipalities represents the beginning of their full integration,” it is said in the release. The ombudsman stressed he had sent recommendations to all local-self governments to which the Roma from New Belgrade were moved, and all competent ministries to make sure that the eviction of Roma and their integration in the society were carried out in accordance with the strategy for improvement of their position. 257 Roma families were evicted from the shanty town in New Belgrade on April 26.
