Farmers continued their protest by blocking numerous roads across Serbia on Thursday. However, they have partially removed their tractors from two bridges over the Tamis River. Protesting farmers continue to block roads The Zrenjanin-Belgrade road and the Old Bridge in Pancevo are also open for traffic, police have confirmed. Long line of trucks has formed on the New Pancevo Road and according to the farmers they are helping them block the road. They say that they are only letting “emergency cases go through”. B92 has learnt that the farmers had minor altercations with the police on several occasions during the day but there have not been any serious incidents. When asked when they would unblock the roads, the protesters said that “everything depends on the outcome of negotiations between the farmers’ representatives and the Serbian government” which should be held on Thursday afternoon. The farmers are dissatisfied with the new subsidies system per output. The Agriculture Ministry has stated that the new system will not be changed despite the protests because it is better than the old one. The farmers’ protest caused traffic gridlock in Vojvodina and central Serbia on Wednesday. The protesting farmers met with Serbian parliament Speaker Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic on Wednesday. She urged them not to block roads and added that the issue of subsidies would be solved by the new government that would be formed after the elections on May 6. (Tanjug) B92 Tanjug
