Serbia's first emergency room for animals, which will help both abandoned animals and house pets, opened at the Veterinary Institution in Belgrade on Thursday. Director Bratislav Stankovic told reporters at the opening ceremony that the ER was modeled after similar centers abroad and is equipped with the latest technology. Emergency vet service introduced in Belgrade Stankovic said treatment of abandoned dogs and cats will be financed from the institution's budget, while owners will cover the cost for their own pets. Full service, including assistance in the field, will cost about RSD 3,000 (some EUR 30), he said. Beside the emergency room, the service has at its disposal an ambulance vehicle and facilities for post-operative recovery of animals.
