At the beginning of the manifestation in Serbian Tavern (Srpska kafana) hosted by the actors of Atelje 212 Theater, while the guest was Belgrade Chamber of Commerce, funds were gathered for an additional incubator, so in the first New Year’s night and on the first day of 2012, the babies in Serbia got at least six incubators. Apart from the large number of citizens, President of Serbia Boris Tadic, Belgrade mayor Dragan Djilas with his family, Vice President of the Government Ivica Dacic and a range of other renowned citizens, representatives of diploMatic core and the community took part in the March of the Babies. Serbian President Boris Tadic as the patron of the campaign has proclaimed 2012 Year of the Babies, saying: “I hope that next year we will have many more babies, as the babies are the best thing that could happen in our lives. I wish you to have many babies and that every year be the Year of the Babies“, adding that this campaign should be expanded in every city and municipality. “I believe that we could do much. The results can be seen in the number of the babies born in the year. We have to expect that it would be better, this is the battle for life“. Veran Matic and Boris Tadic (Tanjug) In his speech, the organizer of the campaign Veran Matic, president of the Managing Board of B92 Fund and Editor in Chief of B92, said that the state must do everything to modernize all children hospitals and maternity hospitals by providing new equipment, so that every prematurely born baby and every child with disabilities could have the best possible chance to survive and to develop normally, as every democratic society is being judged primarily by its treatment of babies and the powerless, and that it should done everything to develop economically, as this is the core condition for making the decision on becoming a parent and giving birth, and thus prevent Serbia from becoming one large nursing home. “To be old, poor and lonely – is there worse scenario for any of us? Every baby is future little man soon to become an adult. When we get old, we would like to see not only us in the mirror, but also our young friends that we helped grow up. We don’t want our country to become a big nursing home, but a park in which we could together welcome new years and see off the old ones. Until our society becomes aware of the importance of this battle, and that the destiny of every baby is our destiny, we won’t be able to succeed with individual campaigns to beat the indifference and apathy that rule in Serbia for years. This is the condition of our common awakening and hope. That is why, starting from 2012, we should do everything that indicator of our future should be care for the babies and parents“, said Veran Matic, inviting the citizens, companies and politicians to reach national consensus regarding these issues, and taking active part in the campaigns. In 2011, with the help of donors, B92 Fund had gathered funds for 200 incubators and thus systeMatically solved this problem in all health institutions in Serbia. In 2012, we should gather funds for medical equipment, such as resuscitation tables, respirators, and other medical devices. Through its social initiatives, B92 Fund will endeavor to abolish or reduce tax on baby equipment and food, as well as to create stimulating incentives for motherhood and parenthood.
