"No systemic corruption in police"

There is no systemic corruption in the Serbian police force, Interior Minister and Deputy PM Ivica Dačić stated on Wednesday in Belgrade.

There is no systemic corruption in the Serbian police force, Interior Minister and Deputy PM Ivica Dacic stated on Wednesday in Belgrade. He said that recently presented results of a survey conducted by the UN Office on Drugs and Crime "only point to examples of minor corruption". "No systemic corruption in police" Commenting the survey which placed Serbia's police and state administration on the top of the list of corrupted bodies, Dacic underlined that surveys of the kind were carried our earlier as well, and that the remarks usually refer to traffic and border police. “I believe these to be examples of minor corruption. There is no systemic corruption in the police,” Dacic underlined. He also noted that the police was "very popular with the citizens": “The Serbian police have never interfered in political issues, and along with the armed forces and the Church, it is the most popular state body among the Serbian citizens. However, it was not always like this. The police used to be a symbol of repression."

Commenting the survey which placed Serbia's police and state administration on the top of the list of corrupted bodies, Dačić underlined that surveys of the kind were carried our earlier as well, and that the remarks usually refer to traffic and border police.

“I believe these to be examples of minor corruption. There is no systemic corruption in the police,” Dačić underlined.

He also noted that the police was "very popular with the citizens":

“The Serbian police have never interfered in political issues, and along with the armed forces and the Church, it is the most popular state body among the Serbian citizens. However, it was not always like this. The police used to be a symbol of repression."
