B92 reporter receives Belgrade City Journalism Award

Belgrade City Awards for 2010 have been presented today to winners, for the first time in 18 categories. B92 journalist Brankica Stankovic has received the Belgrade City Journalism Award. B92 reporter receives Belgrade City Journalism Award Since 2004, Brankica Stankovic has been the author of The Insider investigative journalism show which has gained unique reputation as a particularly influential news show in the region. In the past eight years, B92 journalists and editors have received this most important award in Serbia four times, which is a testament to the strength and importance of the B92 news operation. Over the course of the past seven years, The Insider show has exposed many abuses and scandalous affairs and presented undeniable proofs about the plunder of state property, ’construction industry and football mafias’ as well as the links between such criminal groups with politics and security services. The Insider show was also investigating Serbian PM Zoran Djindjic assassination and collected evidence pointing to a political background to this tragic event, even when the state organs were ignoring it. While for many The Insider show is the most courageous journalistic project in Serbia, for some it presents a serious obstacle to their criminal dealings. This is why Stankovic has been assigned 24-hour-a-day plainclothes police protection following the Interior Ministry’s safety risk assessment. B92 Editor-in-Chief Veran Matic has also been assigned by the Interior Ministry personal police protection on account of threats received following The Insider show broadcasts. Despite the threats, Stankovic, who has been under such a protection regime for the past year and a half, is working even harder. The Insider team has been expanded and this had led to Fraud of the Century – Kolubara investigative series. Stankovic is an award-winning journalist. OSCE declared her “The Person of the Year” for 2010. She also won "Jug Grizelj", "Dusan Bogavac" and "Dr Erhard Busek“ awards.
