The B92 Fund is organizing a campaign to raise money and collect food for soup kitchens in Serb enclaves in Kosovo. Victoria Group has donated 60 tons of flour, but the soup kitchens in the Kosovsko Pomoravlje District need twice as much, along with other food, and money. B92 pushes to secure food for enclaves B92 Editor-in-Chief Veran Matic said on Monday in Belgrade that the Fund decided to join in these efforts out of fear that the enclave soup kitchens would run out of food completely in the coming days. "We have started the campaign in order to collect enough food and funds for the next six months. I must note that this is about Kosovsko Pomoravlje, and that some 40,000 residents, Serbs, live in that area's enclaves, and that they are considerably isolated," said Matic. "There is plenty of space for the state to react in some way, that is, to take over the financing of the soup kitchens, to cover at least the minimum cost," he stated. The state currently does not finance either the kitchens or provide salaries for those who work in them. "We know that money is being set aside for administration, education, health care employees. We know that some of that money gets embezzled, some of those people live in Serbia and do not show up in Kosovo," said Matic. "One truly feels angry to find out that there is no financing on that elementary level, for the minimum of welfare needs, in order to decrease hunger." The campaign, which is part of the ongoing Food for All project, aims to collect food and money donations. The soup kitchens require between RSD 7-8mn to pay minimum wages for 32 workers. Those who wish to donate can contact the B92 Fund at the following telephone number: 011-301-2000, ext. 3001.
