IM: Belgrade is safe city

Serbian IM Ivica Dacic presented the annual security report to the City Assembly on Friday and said that Belgrade was a safe city, especially for foreigners. Only one percent of foreign visitors had problems in Belgrade, he said. Urging respect of human rights and freedoms, Dacic said that he was aware that this was not to everyone's liking, but emphasized that the police did not define rights but only enforced the law. There have been incidents, but they were individual cases, he said, adding that incidence of crime was generally reduced in the first nine months of 2010 in Belgrade. Video surveillance has been established in schools in three Belgrade municipalities, the number of school police officers has been increased and the number of casualties in traffic accidents dropped by 36 percent, he said.
