Spain's famed Barcelona FC is this year for the first time organizing its summer football camp in the Serbian capital city. This is also Barcelona's first summer camp for children in this region, while the club previously organized similar events in western Europe and Asia. Youngsters attend Barcelona FC camp in Belgrade The youngsters who have been selected – organized in groups of 15 – now have the privilege to learn about football from Barcelona's staff. Sergio Ponsa Salas, who is a coach with the club, said he was satisfied with the work put in by the children. “We're having great fun, and what's most important, they learn a lot here. We go through tactical and technical concepts very quickly, and we're very proud of them,” said the Spaniard. Since the eyes of the football world are now on South Africa and the FIFA World Cup there, where Serbia started with a defeat, Salas also commented on that situation: “They played a good game, but they made some tactical mistakes,” he said of the Serbia squad. “They should have played a more intensive and offensive game, because when you play against a strong team like Ghana, physically, there must be higher intensity.” “I think they suffered bad luck, they played better than Ghana, but they were unlucky in scoring goals, there was a penalty and everything else, but I think they have a chance to go through to the next round,” said Salas of Serbia's World Cup outlook. Back in the summer camp, located in Belgrade's river island of Ada Ciganlija, the children train, attend lectures, and also watch World Cup games together. This year, the camp has enrolled only 90 children due to the limited capacity of the venue, but since there is huge interest from kids and parents alike, organizers say that they may repeat the event next year as well.
