Union officials said that workers of the Nikola Tesla Thermoelectric plant (TENT) will begin a strike tomorrow. According to the union, the workers are not satisfied with the agreement reached with the government. Thermoelectric plant workers to begin strike TENT Strike Committee President Milovan Despotovic said that the workers will stop the transport of coal to the plant in between 12:00-14:00 CET if their demands are not met, and that starting Tuesday, the transport of coal will be blocked completely. “In that case, we would continue striking activities, but we would not endanger the production of electrical energy, because the plant has reserves of coal for several days,” Despotovic said. He said that there is no possibility of citizens being without electricity, because the minimum work criteria will be respected even if the strike lasts for a longer period of time. The agreement signed on Friday by the government, administration, and Serbian Electric (EPS) union is not acceptable for TENT workers, because it does not fulfill the striking demands—increased wages in accordance with the increased cost of living, hot meals, and the implementation of all regulations of the labor law. TENT unions stated that the realization of the agreement is not possible, because it depends on income achieved in 2010, while the EPS business plan expects losses of RSD 20bn. “The same agreement was made in October 2008 and has yet to be realized,” the union stated. TENT workers have also called on other EPS workers to join the strike on Monday.
