Branislav Tiodorovic, a member of the working group for monitoring the spread of swine flu, says the first wave of the epidemic is dying down. He said that most municipalities in Vojvodina are reporting a smaller number of infections, and that a stagnation has also occurred in Belgrade, while the decrease in cases is most significant in central Serbia. Health expert: Swine flu abating “The number of cases in Cacak, Kraljevo and Kragujevac is decreasing, and there are less reports of infection in Nis and Zajecar, but there's an increase in Vranje and Leskovac. This means that the numbers will peak in southern Serbia in the coming days and then begin abating,” Tiodorovic stated. He added that there are two assumptions related to the second wave of the epidemic. “One is that there will be a period of seven days separating the two waves, but it is possible—because of the many sensitive people that do not have an immunity developed against the flu—that there will be another mild wave within two or three days, which will infect children in preschool, who are most sensitive,” Tiodorovic said. He explained that parents, teachers and caretakers must pay special attention in the coming period to their children’s hygiene. A total of 295 cases of the A/H1N1 virus infections has been confirmed in Serbia as of Monday, the Institute of Public Health of Serbia Dr. Milan Jovanovic Batut stated. Eleven people have so far succumbed to the disease, with the latest two deadly outcomes reported today in Kragujevac.
