Several days of heavy rain in southern Serbia has led to flooding and mudslides in local towns. Train transportation has also been shut down towards Macedonia in the village of Ristovac because of damages to the railroad. Mudslides and flooding in Morava Valley Vranje Deputy Mayor Igor Andonov said that agriculture service and natural disaster services have visited the flooded areas in the Morava River Valley and are estimating damages. “Data is still being gathered so this is not final, but according to what we know, because of the increased water levels in South Morava, Zlatokopacko polje and the region around the Zlatokopacko Bridge are flooded,” Andonov said. He said that the bridge in the village of Rataje is also in danger, and that schools in the village have no water, adding that the heating station is also damaged and not working. According to Vranje police, there were landslides in several locations along the Nis-Skoplje highway and other local roads in the south. Police have warned drivers to be extra careful while traveling in southern Serbia because of the rain damaged roads.

Mudslides and flooding in Morava Valley

Vranje Deputy Mayor Igor Andonov said that agriculture service and natural disaster services have visited the flooded areas in the Morava River Valley and are estimating damages.

According to Vranje police, there were landslides in several locations along the Niš-Skoplje highway and other local roads in the south.

Police have warned drivers to be extra careful while traveling in southern Serbia because of the rain damaged roads.
