Cement maker donates to safe houses Since B92 launched the campaign in 1996, two shelters in Belgrade and a safe house in Zrenjanin have been built. After the construction works finished in April 2010, the safe house in Sombor will be able to take on about 20 people. Holcim decided to make a donation in order to help the victims of domestic violence, especially in those municipalities where the company does its business. “Socially responsible behavior is one of the basics of our business,” Holcim Serbia General Manager Gustavo Navarro pointed out during a ceremony. “We believe that the project of building safe houses is very important. Construction of a safe house in Sombor is of special importance to us because river transportation company Kamenko Gagrcin has recently become a part of Holcim Srbija," Navarro stated. The need for safe houses increases, especially in times of economic crises. Chairman of B92 Fund Managing Board Veran Matic called upon other construction material manufacturers to help as well. “It is becoming ever harder to do this job, but the challenges are also much bigger. These problems increase during a crisis,” Matic stressed. According to him, it is very hard to provide safe future for those who have been victims of domestic violence. ’’Experience from Belgrade says that there have been successful attempts of companies which to all intents and purposes donated jobs. So, when a woman shows up at a safe house, she goes through some sort of training, re-education and preparation for a new job if she isn’t already employed,“ explained he. Another safe house, this time in Pancevo, is planned for the future period. Matic, Navarro sign agreement (B92)
