None of the patients in Belgrade's Dragisa Misovic hospital were injured last night as fire engulfed the top floor of the building. Serbian police (MUP) firefighters were at the scene three minutes after receiving reports on 22:45 CET on Saturday that there was a fire on the hospital's roof. Authorities investigate cause of hospital fire The blaze originated from the top floor that was not yet open to use and held no patients. About 300 patients were quickly and safely evacuated to other hospitals. MUP Gendarmes and Belgrade Directorate officers also took part in putting out the blaze, while Interior Minister Ivica Dacic, Mayor Dragan Djilas and MUP Rescue and Protection Sector chief Predrag Maric were also at the scene. Dacic told B92 that there were no casualties and that the hospital staff had been evacuated, adding that an investigation would be launched immediately to discover the cause of the fire. He then appealed on citizens not to believe rumors that there was a bomb activated at the hospital, "six minutes after the fire broke out". Police did received a bomb tip-off, but Dacic said that MUP's teams checked and found that it was fake. Maric also rejected claims that the accident involved an explosive device. Meanwhile, MUP special teams are investigating the cause of the fire, Police Director Milorad Veljovic told Tanjug. The public will be kept informed about the progress of the investigation, said Veljovic. There were no casualties, but two firemen suffered light injuries, while about 280 patients were evacuated to other Belgrade hospitals. The fire was put out in less than two hours by close to 80 firefighters using 25 fire vehicles. (Tanjug)
