Jat Airways are to offer direct flights between Belgrade and Banja Luka. According to Jat, research shows that flights to Banja Luka would be financially viable and that daily flights are being planned. The ATR airplane, which can seat 66 people, will fly on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sunday nights from Belgrade to Banja Luka, returning from Banja Luka the following morning so that travelers can catch connecting flights from Belgrade airport to other destinations. New Jat director Sasa Vlaisavljevic said that this flight would be bringing in profits by the spring. “Jat’s fleet is safe, this is proven by the A8 certificate which we have received two years in a row without a single criticism, something not even the largest international companies can boast,” Sasa Vlaisavljevic said. Minister without Portfolio in charge of the National Investment Plan, Dragan Djilas, said that the privatization of Jat and the search for a strategic partner would be over within the next six months. Djilas said that he could guarantee that flights to Banja Luka would continue for at least three and a half years, the term of the current government, and that no one would cancel the flights subsequently. “I believe that it is the job of us all to do everything we can to improve links between Serbs in Serbia and the Republic of Srpska (RS), and traffic is important for that. With the construction of Corridor 10 and the Horgos-Pozega highway, we are thinking about what else we could do in order to bind Serbia and the RS better. This is one way,” Djilas said. RS Traffic Minister Nedeljko Cubrilovic said that he hoped that the Belgrade-Banja Luka flights would improve economic cooperation and strengthen the brotherly ties of the people of Serbia and the RS. Until now, there has been only one flight available at Banja Luka airport, from Banja Luka to Zurich.
