Bojan Kostres wants the police (MUP) to take the necessary measures to stop the work of neo-Nazi organizations. The Vojvodina Assembly president issued a statement on Monday saying that the announcement by an organization branded fascist, named Obraz, to stage a march in Novi Sad is conclusive proof that these groups “are working unhampered on disseminating retrograde ideas.“ “MUP should ban neo-Nazi groups” “Interior Minister Dragan Jocic’s responsibility is to get fully involved in order to prevent the lives of citizens from Novi Sad, Vojvodina and Serbia from being constantly disrupted. After police banned the organization of a rally by the neo-Nazi organization, Nacionalni Stroj (National Formation), announced for October 7, another organization, Obraz, has said it will march the streets of Novi Sad. In MUP records, Obraz is labeled as a fascist organization. Kostres reminded Jocic that in December 2005 the Vojvodina Assembly adopted an Act on the actions of informal groups and individuals with neo-Nazi characteristics on the territory of Serbia, and demanded the government block their work. “We drafted the Act on the basis of MUP reports submitted to the Vojvodina Assembly that named groups, including Nacionalni Stroj, Skinheads, Blood and Honor and Racist Nationalist, as neo-Nazi organizations, while Obraz was marked down as fascist,” he added. Kostres also reiterated that Obraz’s march would take place on the same day as an international conference sponsored by the Council of Europe, also to be held in Novi Sad. “As Serbia is currently chairing the CoE, and the conference is organized with the government’s assistance, it’s the responsibility of all of us not to let the event be tainted by groups advocating retrograde ideas that Serbia and the whole of Europe have fought to stamp out.”
