Radovanović stated that Dušan Spasojević, Mile Luković and other members of the criminal organization dubbed the Zemun Clan were illegally released from custody at the end of 2001.

"Everything must be investigated, everything that has preceded the assassination, and this means that we must go back to the time when the leaders of the Zemun Clan and the entire clan were arrested, and then released," it was said in the statement, adding that many lies in connection with their release had been presented in the media.

At the end of April 2001, France extradited the leaders of the Zemun Clan to Serbia, and the media immediately reported that they were suspected for the abduction of the president of the Delta Holding company, Miodrag Mišković, on April 9.

One day after the abduction, Mišković was released after the ransom, worth several million, was paid, according to unofficial information.

Radovanović's statement is one-sided and represents an attempt to obscure the essence, stated the lawyer of the Đinđić family, Rajko Danilović, pointing out that the main point was in investigating what had led to the rebellion of the Special Operations Unit (JSO).

"It should be investigated which parties, individuals, groups and power centers were behind this rebellion, and were inciting the rogue part of the Interior Ministry to topple the government of Zoran Đinđić, resulting in the assassination of the premier," it was said in Danilović's statement.

Čedomir Jovanović, the Liberal Democratic Party president and the deputy premier in the Đinđić government, stated that he was "pleased" with the fact that this investigation had been initiated.

He told reporters during a drive of his party's youth chapter, dubbed "Stop the Political Mafia," that the party would do everything for the truth to be unveiled.

He said it was not possible to find out the truth before, due to the obstruction of the trial of Đinđić's murderers by the government of Vojislav Koštunica.
