B92 airs exclusive Đinđić trial evidence
The video, where Jovanović leads the police to a spot in Fruška Gora where he said he tried out the sniper rifle allegedly later used to murder Đinđić, has been the subject of hot debate in the court for the past three and a half years. At the time the footage was made, police also recovered shell casings that matched those from the scene of Đinđić’s assassination.
Beside Jovanović, his attorney Vesna Radomirović was also present, as well as a judge, a prosecutor and Organized Crime Police (UBPOK) operatives.
Jovanović’s defense, which claimed throughout the trial that their client made a confession without a lawyer present, has tried to prevent the video from being included as evidence and publicly broadcast.
Judge Nata Mesarević decided to allow the video into evidence and it was shown to the court at the start of 2007.
In their closing arguments before the court, both first accused Milorad Ulemek and second accused Zvezdan Jovanović rejected prosecution claims charging them with organizing and executing the murder.
Prosecution sought guilty verdicts and maximum forty years imprisonment terms for the two former commanders of MUP’s disbanded Special Operations Unit (JSO), while the defense called for acquittal.
Ten other persons have also been charged, five of which remain at large.
The judges will convene Wednesday morning and are expected to deliver the verdict at 11:30 a.m.
