Bulgarian fans accused of "insulting Macedonia" block road

Fans of Bulgarian football club Botev on Thursday for several hours blocked the Kumanovo-Kriva Palanka road in northeastern Macedonia.

Bulgarian fans accused of "insulting Macedonia" block road

The Macedonian police intercepted the supporters' bus at 4 am on Thursday in order to detain them, after they put stickers with Bulgaria's international code "BG" on a gas station near Kriva Palanka, and wrote messages "offensive to Macedonia."

The police searched the passengers and found that four of were in possession of "material evidence."

According to local media, reporting on Thursday morning, traffic returned to normal after the blockade ended, but the Macedonian police were "yet to detain the suspects."

The Bulgarian fans were on their way to Albania, where their club will play a Europa League qualifier later in the day.
