Ambassadors of EU member-states posted in Bosnia-Herzegovina have decided to no longer maintain contacts with RS President Milorad Dodik.

In this way, the EU has effectively introduced a type of sanctions against the leader of the Serb entity, former RS president and leader of the opposition NDP party Dragan Cavic told the daily.

"For that reason Dodik cannot represent Srpska (RS) in the full capacity, nor can he count on meetings with ambassadors of EU countries. That informal decision represents a kind of isolation," he was quoted as saying, adding that the Serb entity is suffering "great damage" because of this.

"Sanctions, however, are not appropriate for a sovereign state, and the sanctions against Dodik are but one more proof that Bosnia-Herzegovina has no sovereignty," said Covic.

According to him, "everyone in the RS who mistakenly thinks it is not realistic for the EU to impose sanctions on Dodik, will have to use their heads."

"It is my impression that the EU expects a u-turn in Dodik's policy. Unless that happens, it is realistic they will reach for sanctions, also officially," said this politician.

British Ambassador to Bosnia-Herzegovina Edward Ferguson has been quoted as saying that sanctions the U.S. recently imposed on Dodik came as a consequence of his "destabilizing actions and statements," whole there was readiness to undertake appropriate measures unless there is a change in his behavior.

Dodik addressed the issue on Thursday by saying he was "unaware" of any EU sanctions against him, and that he received "no official information" about it.

The RS leader then added that he "doesn't feel" like he's under U.S. sanctions, either.

"I believe that was done as a reflex by a number of people. As for the EU, I'll have a conversation with an ambassador from the EU today, so I don't understand what sanctions can there be," he told reporters in Banja Luka.

Dodik, however, did not say which ambassador he was referring to.
