Biden congratulates Djukanovic on NATO invitation

Djukanovic thanked the administration and the people of the United States, and the vice president personally for their continued support and contribution in making the decision to invite Montenegro to join NATO.

He pointed out that it was a good decision for Montenegro, the region and the Alliance, and that Montenegro will handle the obligations it took over responsibly, emphasizing the results and further commitment to the rule of law "and strengthening of public support."

"We're committed to continue working on reforms to convince our partners that they made the right decision, and encourage them to complete the ratification process within a reasonable deadline," said Djukanovic.

Biden stressed this was the result of Montenegro's commitment to reforms, noting that he said during his recent visit to Croatia that this process will firmly anchor the whole of the Balkans in the Alliance and in the EU, which is the best way to achieve stability, security and prosperity, and promote democratic values ​​in the region.

Djukanovic invited Biden to visit Montenegro at the earliest opportunity, while Biden thanked him and said he was looking forward to his future meetings with Djukanovic in Montenegro or in America, said the Montenegrin website CDM.

NATO in early December invited Montenegro to start negotiations to become the 29th member of the organization.
