Slovenian army authorized to use force against refugees
Slovenia's parliament has adopted with 66 votes in favor and five against the legal changes that give greater powers to the army in protecting the state border.

The changes were passed as thousands of migrants are entering Slovenia via Croatia, after Hungary closed its border.The new law will allow soldiers to control the border when the police are not present. The troops were deployed at the border two days ago, but so far they could only act in the presence of the police.
PM Miro Cerar addressed parliament before the vote to say his government would today officially request policing and financing support from the EU.
Opposition parties think the government should follow Hungary's suit and build a fence on Slovenia's border with Croatia, to prevent migrants from entering the country.
An Interior Ministry official said that the possibility of protecting the border with physical barriers was not being ruled out , in case the migrant influx "escalated."
The Slovenian army has a total of some 7,000 members. The amended law should come into effect as soon as today and will be in force for up to three months, with the possibility of extension.
Slovenian soldiers on border guard duty can now in cooperation with the police issue warnings and instructions, temporarily restrict movement, and together with the police establish control in calming a masses of people, using coercive means.
