The Hungarian police also said journalists were not arrested, but added that "three persons, citizens of Australia, Slovakia, and Poland were processed based on the suspicion they crossed the border illegally." They were then released pending the outcome of the legal procedure.

The statement said that the police acted in line with the rules and "on several occasions officially warned journalists not to obstruct the police action."

Hungarian police officers on Wednesday assaulted a Serbian TV crew, as well as journalists from Poland and Sweden.

The OSCE reacted on Thursday by urging Hungary "not to threaten and obstruct journalists."
