Croatia can't confirm beheading of citizen; won't fight IS

Milanovic called an extraordinary news conference in Zagreb today, and said:

"What we see looks terrible. We may not have confirmation even in the coming days."

He added that Croatia, along with officials and representatives of other states, "would not stop looking for Salopek for as long as there is a glimmer of hope left."

"I'm afraid that - although I can't say with complete certainty - that for the first time what has unfortunately been happening to others has happened to a Croatian citizen," Milanovic told reporters.

"Croatia will not participate in combat activities against the so-called Islamic State," the Croatian prime minister also said.

He confirmed that attempts have been made already today to confirm the authenticity of the image claiming to show the execution of the hostage.
