Naser Oric has been arrested in the Swiss city of Bern Wednesday, Tanjug learned from sources at the Serbian War Crimes Prosecutor's Office.

Naser Oric arrested in Switzerland on Serbian warrant

Oric was on his way to attending an event commemorating 20 years since the crime committed by units of the Bosnian Serb Army during in Srebrenica in 1995.

The former commander of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia-Herzegovina 8th Operational Group (Srebrenica) was arrested based on a warrant issued by Interpol Serbia in February 2014.

In addition to Oric, the international arrest warrants were also issued for the arrest of wartime chief of the police station in Srebrenica Hakija Meholjic and three other members of the Bosnia-Herzegovina Army.

Serbia's War Crimes Prosecutor's Office holds Oric and the four Bosniaks responsible for killing nine civilians of Serb nationality in the villages of Zalazje and Donji Potocari, in the Srebrenica area, on July 12, 1992.

Oric was indicted for war crimes committed against Serbs before the Hague Tribunal but acquitted of all charges on appeal in 2008.
