President meets with representatives of Serbs in Montenegro

President of the Executive Board of Matica Srpska in Montenegro Vladimir Bozovic recalled that after the referendum in May 2006, when Montenegrins voted to secede from the former Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, the local Serbs were “subjected to brutal discrimination”.

Despite manipulations and pressure from the regime in Podgorica, 33 percent of the population declared themselves as Serbs in the latest census, and 50 percent said that they spoke Serbian, added Bozovic.

Even so, the Serbs are denied their basic human and national rights, especially when it comes to safeguarding their culture, language and script, he pointed out.

Bozovic said that he believes that Serbia, as the mother country, can be of assistance in reaching agreements with the Montenegrin authorities, as well as in certain cultural and media projects.
