Montenegro "must do everything to be invited to NATO"

Vujanovic recalled that Montenegro in 2014 opened a new chapter in the negotiations with the EU, which meant that "nearly half have been opened, and two closed" - and thus showed that the enlargement process is active, "although the EU has announced there would be none during the next five years."

He added that the government and all entities of society should be committed to European integration, and that "membership is very close," the Montenegrin state broadcaster, RTCG, reported on its website.

Vujanovic believes that Montenegro has been given a new, valuable opportunity in the field of Euro-Atlantic integration and stressed that "for the first time in history the NATO summit decided that a country can become a member of the alliance even without a direct decision of the summit."

"We have the opportunity to receive an invitation next year and this opportunity must not be missed. We must do everything to be invited to join NATO," said Vujanovic.
